Couple Therapy

Couples and romantic partners seek Therapy/Couples Coaching for many reasons and at many different stages of their lives, even when they are not experiencing any overt difficulties.

Some seek the psychotherapy/coaching to strengthen their bond, relate with more ease or prepare for the next step in their lives together. Others come in crisis, uncertain of their futures, or whether resolution of their problems is even possible. Even if you and your significant others are experiencing serious conflicts, psychotherapy/coaching may be able to assist you. Some of our clients find that just beginning counseling can restore a sense of goodwill between them and their partner. When combined with the support and guidance of a skilled therapist, this goodwill can form the foundation for renewed or deeper closeness and sharing. Whether you are in a gender-diverse, heterosexual, same-sex or polyamorous relationship, psychotherapy/coaching can support you and your partner.

How does Couples Therapy Work? First, it takes two- meaning both the individuals who are attending couples therapy sessions should be committed to the process. During couples therapy, you will have both positive and negative moments while processing the most sensitive issues in your relationship. Commitment is primary to beginning this journey. Expect homework(usually in tasks, reading assignments and worksheets. Their is never a penalty nor judgement for not doing homework. We are only here to help in a supportive and non-judgmental manner), occasional individual sessions and possibly even family sessions. Secondly, expect growth and dissapointments. Their is no such thing as perfection, but change happens naturally when two people are committed to the process. Finally, expect it to take time. 1-4 sessions is usually not enough time to work through difficult relationship challenges in most couples.  Even though some level of change and growth can happen during this time, we recommend at minimum 6-10 sessions to meet your goals. Does insurance cover Couples Therapy sessions? Most health insurances do not cover these type of sessions because they are not considered a medical necessity. However, if you have private health insurance, please look into your Out of Network coverage for Outpatient Mental Health services. You would be responsible for the payment for your services but we can provide your the necessary documentation so that you can get reimbursement through your Health Insurance Provider.
